Learns to ski at age 8
1932 2ND Place award Jagdspringen Munchen,Weihn.
1936 Wins 2nd place in auto racing in Switz. Read a submission
to Car and Driver 1962 here.
1937 comes to N.Y. at the invitation of his sister. 1937 He then
heads to Soda Springs, CA. to form, with Dennis Jones, the first
school in America to teach the St. Moritz technique.
1938 publishes Skiing Simplified,California Chamber of Commerce
publishes a bulletin using his exercises for ski conditioning.
Establishes school at McGee Mountain
1939 March 17 Interviewed by Lou Marcelle on KFWB Warner
Bros, Hollywood. Hans and Bob Brown talk about the meet and

March 25-6 Chief of Course. Ski Championships CA. Division,
Mammoth Mountain. Hans in charge of laying out the course for
both the cross country and the downhill races.
Apr 15  Attempts Whitney with Ernest and Elisabeth Woods, and
Perley Bennet
May 30   Makes the
first ski ascent of Mt. Whitney.
Summer Promotes summer skiing on Mt Whitney through Chrysler
& Cook Pack Trains in Lone Pine. Joins L.A. Examiner staff writing
a regular column featuring snow conditions and related material.
1940-41 featured in American Ski Annual article on St. Moritz
Technique
1943 Jan. Technical Director for skiing sequences in movie
Mission to Moscow, April Accepted into Army Infantry for basic
training after waiting nearly a year from volunteering. After basic
training he went to Camp Hale Co. to teach 10th Mountain
Troopers ski technique.
1944 July Camp Swift TX. December,
1945 Deployed to Italy, received Bronze Star for service in the
Apennine Mountains and Po valley.
1946 Certified by Calif. Ski Assn. as an instructor. Sets up a
portable rope tow just above Mammoth Tavern  Purchases rope
tow and ski hut on East slope of Mammoth mountain from Nyle
Smith.  Regular column in Western Skiing Magazine. Avalanche at
Monte Christo Mine Hans organizes ski patrol to search for the  
bodies
1948 As publicity chairman for Calif. Ski Instructor Assn. Hans
host annual Ski meeting at McGee lodge, adds two more portable
rope tows at East Slopes, adds first addition to warming hut
(fireplace)
1950 Expands warming hut 2ND addition.
1953 Forest Service issues prospectus.
1954 Publishes Modern Ski Systems
1960 Forest Service revokes his use permit
1963 Organizes First Annual Mammoth Arts Festival
1965 Nov 30 Passes away
from heart attack at 54 years old
